MEDIA STATEMENT

DO KHAIRY AND PAUL LOW DARE TO STEP DOWN AS A SIGN OF PROTEST

Certain actions against several government agencies including MACC has produced a negative perception that there are parties who are trying to obstruct and disrupt the investigation process related to the 1MDB financial scandal and the RM2.6 billion "political donation" that went into the personal account of Dato' Sri Najib Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Several ministers including Datuk Paul Low, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, and Khairy Jamaluddin, Minister of Youth and Sports, have clearly disagreed with certain actions taken of late including the sudden transfer of two senior MACC officers last Friday.

Although to merely state their position - while they are still full ministers - is insufficient.

Based on the concept of "collective responsibility", as long as they remain members of Dato' Sri Najib's cabinet, they in principle continue to agree with the policies and actions that appear to erode the integrity and independence of these key oversight institutions.

Therefore, the both of them must take a stronger line as a sign of protest.

If they are unable to change the policies of the Najib administration, I challenge both ministers to resign before this Wednesday's Cabinet meeting, so that Najib will get the clearest indicator that members of his own cabinet disagree with his administration's policies and actions thus far.

The Rakyat is watching to see whether Khairy and Paul Low will walk the talk, or whether they are only brave to release statements?
