PSM's Solidarity Message to the People of Greece

We from the Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM) would like express our solidarity with the people of Greece who are currently under continuous attacks by punitive austerity measures imposed by the Troika (EC, ECB and IMF) which represent only the interest of the big banks and European financial capital.


We understand that the current Greek government is under tremendous pressure from the savage international debtors and forced to accept bailout deal that will further worsen the life of the Greek people who already had gone through over 5 years of austerity measures. We believe what the European leaders and international financial institutions have done to Greece is constituted a coup that robbed its sovereignty, coup without tanks but with banks.

We salute the people of Greece who withstood the blackmailing and voted “NO” on 5 July 2015. 61% of NO votes represented the popular will of the Greek people to resist the austerity onslaught. This is a clear demand from the Greek people and those who stand with them, for a better future, for both Greece and Europe.

We believe that the Greek people do not need any more austerity. What needed now for the Greek people is solidarity around the world.

We stand with Greece, and call for the cancellation of all odious debts. Only by cancelling the odious and illegitimate debts imposed on Greece by the international financial institutions, the Greek people will have the chance to restart its economy and rebuild a better future for the country as well as Europe.
